The use of movement to convey change of state.
I remember when trying the original demo that I found it hard to tell the data / filters had changed. I think transitions — the movement from one state to another — can play an important role in communicating that a system has changed state. You can also add the transitioning from one pattern to another, which could represent the switching to different dataset or tool. The video just demonstrates a few of these changes in state and how pattern and the use of spacing / position could signify different things or change focus.
